Items of Interest to Everyone!

Mama mia! That's a good!

Last Sunday was the Eighth Grade Italian Dinner/Fundraiser at Harbor. Uncle Frankie Ricchiuti of Pasteria in Medford donated the most delicious food! To start, we had Greek salad and garlic knots, which the 8th graders and I had to taste (before anyone arrived) just to make sure they were OK to serve to our guests--yeah, right. Our guests perused the menus created by John Cahill, as kiddies colored in maps of Italy (also created by John), all while "la musica d'italia" filled the air. Dinner choices included penne ala vodka, sausage, peppers, and onions, chicken cacciatore, and chicken piccata. When in doubt, a little of each did the trick! Che sono buoni!  Click here for more of the story about dinner with Uncle Frankie.

Thanks to the generous Harbor guests, we were able to raise $345 which will go towards the purchase of the senior gift, which is always a surprise for us all.

Special thanks to Uncle Frankie Ricchiuti for his very generous donation of such delicious food. Thanks to Mrs. Cahill for all her hard work in and out of the kitchen and for all the delicious desserts and special children's meals. Thanks to eighth graders Lindsay, Zoe, Teresa, Joey, and John, and sister Nicole Cahill for their excellent table waiting.

Thanks to all our Harbor guests for sharing this day with us and for their very generous donations. An additional thanks, too, to the parents who took part in the 50/50 raffle at the Spring Fling. Thanks to you all, we raised an additional $183 for the senior class gift to Harbor.

Harbor's Art Show

“Artists are like birds, they see the world from a perspective that other people envy.” - Dennis Pymm

On Friday May 21, 2010, Mrs. Grass along with the National Junior Art Honor Society hosted the annual all school art show. This year was their fourth year hosting it at the Setauket Neighborhood House, with 153 guests attending.

A bit of Art Show history

It all began with one giant idea!

As a tradition, Harbor has always ended the school year with a culmination art show. In the years prior to Mrs. Grass’ arrival, the art show was traditionally held in the gym. When Mrs. Grass assumed the position as artist in residence at Harbor, she was inspired by the words of Mrs. Spahr. “Think BIG,” she said, and so, that’s just what Mrs. Grass did.

Inspired by the words of Mrs. Spahr and a vision of her students’ creativity being properly showcased, the first gallery-style art show was held at the Setauket Neighborhood House in June 2006.

Mrs. Grass and the NJAHS do not solely put the evening together. Without the following people the art show would not have been nearly as successful. Mrs. Feeney, Mrs. Essex, the Cacciato family and the fabulous Harbor PA put all of our refreshments together. Mrs. Grass would like to thank the faculty for their support.

Here is a small taste of the artwork from the show.
