Tuition Assistance

Harbor Country Day understands that some families need financial assistance to attend an independent school. We are fortunate to have a significant tuition assistance budget that can help. We hope to use these funds not only to help individual families, but also to help provide our community with social and economic diversity that will benefit all of us. As we learn from one another, we grow with each other. Through the school's effort to provide tuition assistance, we are able to attract bright and talented students who might otherwise not have the opportunity to attend Harbor.

Tuition Assistance awards are granted to students on the basis of need only and for one academic year at a time. Families must apply for tuition assistance annually.  If applications for assistance exceed the school's financial capability, the school will make awards based on academic and social considerations.

Tuition Assistance is established by a third-party organization, the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) of the National Association of Independent Schools. SSS provides schools with an objective method to calculate a family's ability to contribute to educational expenses. Every family applying for assistance must file the Parents' Financial Statement to SSS, and submit a copy of the Federal Income Tax (Form 1040), W2 and all schedules.  The form and further information on SSS can be found here: SSS.

The Tuition Assistance Committee at Harbor reviews the report from SSS and the supporting documents.  Applications for tuition assistance, and tuition assistance awards, are treated as confidential thoughout a student's career at Harbor.

We do not use tuition assistance as a consideration in determining a student's eligibility for admission.  If a student is awarded assistance, we will make every effort to continue awards to that student throughout his or her tenure at Harbor, providing the student remains in good standing, and the family continues to demonstrate financial need.
