After School Clubs:
A variety of year-long After School Clubs are available to students in grades 1 – 8. The individual Clubs are coordinated by faculty and are seek to further school pride and community service.

Art Club
The Art Club is designed so that students can take full advantage of spreading their creativity throughout the School community. This Club provides an opportunity for members to become full and complete creative thinkers. Some of the Art Club’s goals will be to paint murals, design an Art Club t-shirt, and hold fundraisers to fund art supplies.

Cheerleaders Club
Club members will learn cheers and chants for Basketball. We will cheer and spread team spirit at all Harbor Hawks home Basketball games. The Cheerleaders Club also participates in service activities to benefit the School and the community.

Chess Club
After reviewing the rules of chess and how pieces move, Chess Club members will learn strategies for winning. Each meeting will be divided between learning a special aspect of the game and playing chess with one another. Samples of great games in literature will be analyzed and a chess tournament will be included.

Drama Club
Drama Club activities will include improvisation and theatre games, practicing audition skills, reading plays, and determining how to stage them with props, costumes, etc. The Club will also perform other activities to enhance interest in acting.

Builders Club (co-sponsored by Kiwanis Club)
Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school students. Builders Club provides a way to form sound personal values based on experiences in meaningful community service activities. Club members learn by doing. They learn organization, teamwork, and leadership. But the most important lesson they learn is that individuals working together can make a difference in the world around them.

K-Kids Club (co-sponsored by Kiwanis Club)
K-Kids is the youngest and fastest growing service organization for elementary students worldwide. Like the Builders Club, K-Kids is a “student-lead” community service organization. As part of a shared community experience at Harbor, there will be an opportunity for Lower School K-Kids members to work together with Upper School Builders Club members as they work on age appropriate school and community service projects. K-Kids can compete in oratorical, essay, scrapbook, and leadership development activities and contests for local, state, and international recognition and awards.

Both K-Kids and Builders have counterparts in high schools (Key Clubs) and colleges and universities (K-Circle Clubs).

Student Council:
Students in grades 5 – 8 can choose to participate in Harbor Country Day School’s Student Council. This experience offers each student the opportunity to interact and promote positive change within the school community and the community at large.

Leadership, cooperation, and collaboration are essential elements to help affect change. These skills and attributes will be enhanced as the Council meets during the year. Students will find these life skills will provide a strong foundation for future success.

The Student Council has sponsored community service projects for many years and has earned the distinction of being recognized by Newsday's Future Corps. Harbor’s Student Council has an active partnership with the Long Island State Veteran's Daycare Facility at Stony Brook University, and visits regularly.

In addition to Student Council, Harbor’s Upper School offers its student body diverse opportunities for student leadership, mentoring and service.

This year our theme is Project Initiate. Project Initiate invites students to take part and participate in school community activities, "make a difference", and challenge themselves to help charities throughout our local area. Students will also have opportunities to mentor younger students throughout the year working together with teachers. Project Initiate opens many new doors and invites students to enter.

Team Sports:
Students in grades 5 – 8 participate in an interscholastic sports program. Harbor Hawks compete against teams from neighboring schools, encouraging good sportsmanship, cooperation, team and school spirit.

Sports teams are lead by coaches Mrs. Decker and Mr. deKnipp. The teams play Soccer in the fall, Basketball in the winter, and Softball in the spring.

After Care:
Harbor students can also participate in an After Care program which is available from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm each day. This is an opportunity for socialization among friends, and also a time for students to spend quiet time doing homework. A snack is also provided.

Early Morning Program:
An Early Morning Program is available each day from 7:30am for students who arrive early to school. This program is coordinated by Mrs. Spahr.
