Welcome to all returning and new families!

It’s hard to imagine a more powerful team than school and parents working together for the good of children. That’s why serving as a parent volunteer is so vital to enriching your child’s education at Harbor Country Day School, and volunteering can be so beneficial to you as a parent.

For one thing, volunteering lets you meet other parents who can give you deeper insights into the lives of your children and their classmates. Meeting fellow parents may also enhance your professional connections and personal friendships.

Secondly, volunteering helps you really get to know your child’s School: who the staff and volunteer leaders are, why the School does what it does, and how the mission is carried out.

But, perhaps most importantly, volunteering is an expression of your interest in, and commitment to, your child’s daily life.

The Parents’ Association is a great way for parents and grandparents to get better connected with the School. Parent support and volunteering are the keys to success.

PA Standing Committees:

Hospitality
Lisa Pius, Chair

The Hospitality Committee plans and coordinates the refreshments for School functions including set-up and clean-up.

Library
Jennifer Berlingieri, Co-Chair

Carrie Zuckerman, Co-Chair

The Library Committee assists the School Librarian in routine maintenance such as cataloging, stocking books on shelves, and story telling.

Programs
Kim McEvoy, Chair

The Programs Committee recommends and coordinates student enrichment programs.

Other PA Committees:

Birthday Board: Updates and maintains the monthly “Birthday Board” in the front hall of the School.
Book Fair: Assists in some facet of running the Book Fair, which may include set up, break down, decorating, selling, scooping ice cream and more.
Decorating: Creates fabulous settings for various School functions including Super Raffle, Trunk or Treat, Family Fun Night, Spring Book Fair and more.
Flyers/Invitations/TY Committee: Designs School flyers, invitations, and thank yous for various School functions.
Mailing: Prepares mailings for various School functions.
Photographers: Captures memorable events and functions in photographs used for press releases, website, newsletter, etc.
Prospective Family Welcome: Welcomes visiting and interested families at Open House and other events, and by staffing Harbor’s booth at outside events such as St. James Day.
Publicity: Markets the success of events and functions internally and externally (contacting local press), in conjunction with the Development Office and Event Chairs.
Smithtown Food Pantry Outreach: Coordinates the Halloween leftover candy drive, Thanksgiving food drive, Personal Care drive and other outreach programs with the School.
Sports: Works with the Athletic Director to coordinate transportation and refreshments for the School’s athletic teams; to encourage school spirit and attendance at games.
Super Raffle: Event Committee for the PA’s primary fundraiser. A Sponsorship subcommittee solicits local merchants to place advertisements and donate gift certificates for door prizes.
